The firm was born in 1992 as a new alternative for the delivery of legal services to businessmen who needed to understand the new country model brought by the new constitution and the economic change resulting from the opening of the country. The founders of this firm set out to be the innovative option in the legal market, having their clients as their main focus and their commitment to make of Colombia a fairer country.

José Luis Suárez, the managing partner of Gómez-Pinzón, said: “For 30 years we have been committed to provide solutions that contribute to the country, not only in the legal sector but in the generation of a positive impact in all the areas in which we are present. Because of this, we have focused every day on providing high-level comprehensive advice to each of our clients, so that everything we do and work internally as a team, is reflected in our closeness, trust, and support with them. We have become their strategic business ally and we are proud of the work we have done over the years”.

Among the deals and advisory services provided in the last three decades, the firm recently advised on transactions such as the first hostile takeover bids in the Colombian stock market, the only one of this kind in Latin America, in which the Gilinski family and their partners obtained majority stakes in the Nutresa and Sura business groups.
Another of the firm’s achievements was the structuring and financing of the company Oleoducto Central S.A. (Ocensa), owner of the first public oil pipeline in Colombia in 1994, which was the first ‘project finance’ in the country; in 2000, the structuring and implementation of the democratization process of privileged shares of ISA: ‘ISA, Acciones para todos’, remembered for being the first share program that was opened to Colombians; and advising the Santo Domingo Family in the merger between SABMiller PLC and Bavaria S.A., until 2005, this was the largest mergers & acquisitions deal in Colombia.

Gómez-Pinzón has also been recognized for accompanying Tecnoglass when this company got listed on Nasdaq in the United States, it was the first time that a Colombian company placed shares in this stock market, in addition, Gómez-Pinzón designed and implemented the democratization process of Ecopetrol in an initial public offering on the Colombian Stock Exchange where, for the first time, Colombians could become partners of the company.

“We have supported the arrival in the country of new disruptive players in the market such as Baloto, WOM, DiDi, PriceSmart, among many others; we have advised our clients in innovative litigation such as distribution, or internet domains or as the first program of benefits for collaboration in competition matters; we have seen the birth and growth of industries such as thermoelectric plants with Tebsa, the regasification business with Calamarí, or the ethanol and biodiesel business with Manuelita and Ecopetrol, and we can say that the firm has been part of the growth of revolutionary players in the digital world such as Google, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Mercado Libre or Zoom.” said Mauricio Jaramillo, partner and member of the executive committee of Gómez-Pinzón.
