Bogotá, May 6, 2020 – William Javier Araque-Jaimes , partner and director of the Practice Group Conflict Resolution & Protection of Investments of Gómez-Pinzón Abogados, was appointed Joint Judge of the Civil Cassation Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice for the term of 2020, during a virtual session that was attended by of all the magistrates of the Chamber and the direction of its President, Dr. Armando Tolosa, who gave possession to the group of Joint Judges.
William, a lawyer from the Universidad Libre de Colombia, has more than 30 years advising processes before the ordinary jurisdiction and national arbitration tribunals in complex controversies, in addition to more than 100 arbitrations carried out in his career. In addition, he is a member of the A list of arbitrators of the Arbitration Center of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce. He is considered by multiple international publications as a constant leader on litigation , arbitration and insolvency .
This appointment, made through Agreement No. 018 of April 29, 2020 of the Chamber, constitutes an honorable recognition on the part of the Court, while the figure of the Joint Judge implies that he will enter to perform his functions with several Titular Magistrates in the eventualities provided by law, assuming the powers, responsibilities and duties of the judges of the national judicial corporations.
