Through this project, carried out in alliance with Compartamos con Colombia and the Mima Foundation, a Solid Waste Management System was set up in Nuquí, Chocó. This system was initially designed based on a model that would allow giving resources the best use, and today it has successfully become a company managed by the community.
The Mima Foundation’s Integrated Solid Waste Management system makes it possible to reuse up to 90% of the waste produced in a community. These recycled materials then become a source of income for the community and allow for environmentally sustainable waste treatment and management.
The role of Gómez-Pinzón in this project was to ensure its economic sustainability. This was achieved through a departmental precept that created an environmental tax, and the resulting resources guarantee the system’s economic sustainability.
